While this isn't directly related to fighting breast cancer, I wanted to let everyone know about this really important challenge that my friend Meag and her husband Andy have taken on this winter. Around the same time that my mom was first diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2007, Meag's brother Ron was diagnosed with leukemia. Ron passed away this past October after a long, difficult battle. In his memory, Meag and Andy have committed to running in the ING Marathon in March in order to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
On the evening of Thursday February 18, 2010 The Marlay House in Decatur - until recently, known as The Grange - has generously offered to donate a portion of the proceeds from that evening to Meag & Andy's Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraiser. The event officially begins at 5:30pm and will continue until close. Its perfect: drink beer, give back!
If you live in Atlanta, I highly encourage you to come out and lend your support to Meag and Andy. They are two of the nicest people you could ever hope to know and have really committed themselves to this great cause. Please lend them your support if you can by attending their fundraiser.
To read more about Ron's story, please visit Meag's fundraising page on the Team in Training website. There you can also read about Meag and Andy's marathon training. Finally, if you can't make it to the event tomorrow night or even if you can, please consider donating to this great cause. As we know from the Breast Cancer 3 Day, every little bit helps in the fight against cancer!
